Angry locals excavate road at Tekcham

Frustrated with the dilapidated inter village road from Khongjom bazar to Tekcham, large number of locals thronged the road and blocked it to commuters for hours today.
The angry locals, mostly women came out on the road with spades, garden fork and other objects and dug up the road at around 10 am.
The road is filled with potholes in many places and the earth which remained on the side of the road because of the drainage construction has been causing immense difficulties when it rains, said a woman.
When it rains, the road is slippery and muddy.
The road is becoming dangerous for commuters and children who go to school.
Many of the children who can't afford school van are not able to ride cycle on the road, she said.
The road has been neglected by the authorities concerned for quite a long time, she added.
Meanwhile, the locals have signed an agreement with the authorities concerned.
The reconstruction/renovation of the road will begin from tomorrow, as per the agreement.
It was signed between subcontractor M Brojen, S Suren and people representing the localities - S Sanahanbi Devi, S Radhapati Devi.
10-Langathel Zilla Parishad Member S Ibetombi Devi witnessed the signing of the agreement.
