Imphal, September 27 2018:
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Phanjoubam Sakhi Devi (84) was pulled up by a team of Porompat police at around 7.30 today morning from her residence at Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak, Imphal East.
The police later released her at around 1.30 pm, after detaining her for a few hours in the police station.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Sakhi said that a police team led by Porompat SDPO along with women police personnel arrived at her residence at around 7.30 am and asked to have a talk with her.
After talking with her briefly, the police team asked her to go along with them to Porompat PS.
Later, a car was arranged for the 84 year old AMKIL president, who has been actively engaged in social issues of the State for decades, and she was taken to Porompat PS.
When asked what actually happened after she reached the police station, Sakhi asserted that they (the police personnel) made her sit inside the SDPO office and asked a few simple questions about her involvement in the current MU movement.
She also stated that she was released later at around 1.30 pm after she signed a paper.
However, when enquired about the incident, the SDPO (Porompat) claimed there was no incidence of arresting Sakhi but the police were simply talking to her for some purpose.
He went on to clarify that the purpose of taking Sakhi's signature was to prove that she went home without any harm.
