Talui village, Ukhrul celebrates Unity in Diversity

Ukhrul, September 27 2018:
A '5 day cultural festival cum sports meet & medical camp' under the banner Unity in Diversity was inaugurated at Talui, Ukhrul yesterday.
The event was organized by Talui Reisang Youth Club (TRYC) in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) Imphal and United All Communities Social Uplifters, Manipur.
Minister of Art and Culture Jayantakumar Singh, MLA, 45 Chingai Khashim Vashum, Vice Chairman, JNMDA H Tombi Singh and Director, JNMDA L Upendro Sharma attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Khashim Vashum appreciated the Chief Medical Officer for organising medical camp in the event citing difficulties people of the village are facing while going to hospitals.
He called for preservation and promotion of indigenous culture and art.
"Art and Culture and tradition of a society define the society.
It is our identity," he said.
Commenting on the present trend of youths imitating western cultures, he said that one will return to his/her roots at the very end.
"The colour of crow can't be white for long," he said.
Chief guest of the inaugural function Jayantakumar Singh hoisted an inaugural event flag and highlighted the importance of art and culture.
Chief and Headman of the village submitted a memorandum regarding health related issues.
The Minister assured that he will took up the matter in the Cabinet meeting and try his level best to upgrade the PHC concerned.
The Minister also said that he will discuss with the JNMDA to include Tangkhul studies.
"There is language barrier of between hill and valley however, we understand each other through art and culture.
Art and culture are bridges and they give a platform to unite," he said.
"We should thank our forefathers for the rich culture that we inherit.
We should promote these identity we inherited to the world and preserve for our future generations," he said.
The Minister also stressed the need to set up dedicated museums to save identities of different tribes of Manipur.
The Government is looking forward for the development of art and culture of all tribes, he said.
