40 driving licence registers disappear

As many as 40 registers which recorded details of driving licences have disappeared from the office of District Transport Office (DTO) Ukhrul.
The matter came to light after one Narinder Kumar from Chandigarh Sector 9 C filed an RTI application about a particular driving licence to the State Information Commission.
During a hearing today, Ukhrul DTO Leishangthem Johnson submitted that the driving licence no 9450/UKL enquired by the RTI appellant is at present untraceable in the office.
He also made an offical intimation on January 17 this year to the Transport Director regarding the alleged missing of 40 registers of driving licence in the office of DTO Ukhrul.
After perusing the documents submitted by the DTO Ukhrul, State Chief Information Commissioner O Sunil directed the Transport Director to initiate an enquiry into the alleged missing registers of driving licence and fix responsibility against erring officials.
The commission also directed the SPIO/Director Transport to appear in person on the next hearing scheduled at 11.30 am of April 30 and submit the enquiry report.
The commission further directed the DTO Ukhrul to furnish the required information directly to the appellant through speed post within three days from today.
