Kangpokpi, March 27 2019:
Western attire in a wedding ceremony was for the first time ignored and replaced with traditional attire in modern Kangpokpi history when Kangpokpi Youth Union General Secretary and the bride were seen wearing only traditional attire on their wedding day at Kangpokpi DHQs today, reports our correspondent.
It was the exemplary and inspiring thought of the Bridegroom Kamgougin Lunkim, General Secretary, Kangpokpi Youth and his father Pastor J Lunkim, Moderator, KCC Manipur Synod to promote and encourage culture and tradition in a practical way among the young generation of the modern Kangpokpi, it added.
Irrespective of caste, creed and religion among all communities, in almost all wedding ceremony, bride and bridegroom wear costly attire copying the style and tradition of western countries which is believed to be one factor among many others as to why many youths among the culturally and traditionally rich communities has little knowledge about their culture and tradition, maintained our correspondent.
Kamgougin Lunkim, a respectable well brought up youth taking the advice of his father decided to begin promoting the culture and tradition of the Kukis on his wedding day by dressing in traditional attire to not only display the importance of culture and tradition but to instigate the spirit of upholding our own culture and tradition especially among the youths.
KYU General Secretary Kamgougin Lunkim alias Gogou and the bride Tingneihoi Kipgen alias Tingcha were married this noon in a beautifully and traditionally decorated Kangpokpi Christian Church by Dr T Lunkim in the presence of thousand of people including many prominent Church leaders, civil society organizations, etc.
Kangpokpi local bodies including Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization and Kangpokpi Youth Union also attended the traditionally organized wedding ceremony.
