Imphal, March 27 2019:
Saying that BJP is a party obsessed with publicity and propaganda, ex-Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi remarked that the rival party has started campaigning for the Lok Sabha election by telling all kinds of falsehoods and empty promises like they did in 2014 .
Ibobi was speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate in Outer Manipur PC K James held today at the latter's Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai residence.
Ibobi said that the BJP-led NDA Government has already spent around Rs 5000 crore on publicity alone.
Likewise, the State's BJP-led Government has been befooling the people by telling volumes and volumes of falsehoods.
They are also indulging in unrestrained publicity campaigns in the names of Go to Hills and Go to Village missions, Ibobi remarked.
He called upon the people to analyse if the NDA Government has achieved anything worthwhile during the past five years.
He further asked the people to check if any of the promises made by BJP during the Lok Sabha election of 2014 has been fulfilled.
Even though the State's BJP-led Government has completed two years, it has done nothing for the people except for construction of some market sheds at hill district headquarters.
The Government is obsessed with publicity without doing anything on the ground.
What the BJP-led Government did with regard to the 133/11 KV power sub-stations of Thanlon and Tipaimukh was just inauguration.
The power sub-stations were constructed and almost completed except for installation of transformers during the tenure of the previous Congress Government, Ibobi asserted.
What the incumbent Government has done so far is inauguration of projects/works completed by the Congress Government, he added.
Voters of all the valley Assembly constituencies and Jiribam which are included in Outer Manipur PC would certainly vote after analysing merits and demerits of all political parties and their policies, not in the line of community, Ibobi claimed.
He said that all the Congress MLAs and ex-MLAs of the eight Assembly segments including Jiribam have been instructed to stay alert and station themselves at their respective constituencies.
He then called upon all the people to work collectively and uproot communal BJP so as to bring a change across the country.
MPCC president and CWC member Gaikhangam asserted that BJP and RSS are two sides of the same coin and they are enemies of minorities.
People's freedom has been severely curtailed by the totalitarian attitude of the BJP-led Government.
The ensuing election is a battle to regain the lost freedom and rights, Gaikhangam asserted.
People's freedom has been fading under the incumbent for any one who dares to criticise the Government or voice grievances are victimised.
The Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to criticise or comment on the performance of the Government.
If BJP continues in power any longer, the whole country would be devastated, he asserted and called upon all the people to save the country.
Claiming that the Congress party is a party of the masses, he appealed to all the people of Manipur to ensure that the two Congress candidates emerge victorious.
Ex-MPCC president TN Haokip also made a similar appeal.
K James conveyed gratitude to the Congress leadership for reposing their faith in him and granting the party ticket to him.
Pledging that he would work together with all the communities in the lines of the party's policies, programmes and discipline, James appealed to all the voters to elect him.
