6 Districts to have industrial estates soon: Govindas

Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam informed the House on Monday that six districts of the State will soon have industrial estates and that the Government is planning to set up an integrated textile park.
Responding to a policy cut motion moved by MLAs in the Assembly, the minister added that the Government is also giving attention to make significant progress in the industrial sector and steps have been taken in this regard.
He said the State Government is mulling promoting industrial development by an industrial development authority.
Industrial estates will be set up in six districts, Govindas said, besides upgrading the present Industrial Estate, Takyel.
The Government is putting efforts to offer special facilities to all workers in skilled trades.
Apart from the projected apparel and garment centre to be set up at Lamboikhongnangkhong, the Government is focusing on establishing an integrated textile park at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.
"Manipur is excellent in textile weaving which is a household industry.
Therefore, weavers must boost their products with an endeavor to export them," Govindas urged.
Govindas further referred to petroleum exploration taken up in various locations of the State by big companies like ONGC and pointed out various other prospective works in the State.
He stated that Manipur's soil is very suitable for cultivation of lemon grass, patchouli and other uncommon aromatic plants and if grown abundantly in the State these can be turned into thriving business.
Churachandpur district has earned a lot of money by large scale production of lemon grass which is sold to several States, he said.
The minister said pioneering efforts on agro-based industries will be successful in Manipur.
During discussion on Excise Demand Chief Minister O Ibobi while replying to a policy cut motion moved by MLA Th Shyamkumar, said the job for withdrawal of prohibition of liquor from the State should involve all civil societies and the people as well.
Ibobi stated that the State expects to benefit a revenue amount of Rs 300-400 crore per annum if the Liquor Prohibition Act is revoked.
The House passed six demands�Transport (Rs 10,43,90,000), PWD (Rs 639,99,63,000), Commerce & Industries (Rs 87,29,01,000), State Excise (17,65,00,000), Sale Tax, Other Taxes/Duties on Commodities and Services (Rs 4,00,66,000) and Planning (Rs 405,66,01,000) .
