UG surrendered, hideout busted

Imphal, June 30 2013:
An active member of PLA identified as Army no.2883, S/S L/Corporal Oinam Samananda Singh alias Kanba (33) s/o Oinam Yaima Singh reportedly surrendered to the troops of Red Shield Division yesterday.
According to a statement issued by PIB Defence Wing, Samananda surrendered along with one 9 mm Carbine, Magazine and one 9 mm round.
He joined the outfit on October 25, 2005 and underwent three months of training at Mendha, Myanmar and later joined 251 Battalion of PLA.
Samananda expressed his gratitude towards the Security Forces and Govt for giving him an opportunity to come back to the mainstream, the statement said.
Meanwhile, troop of Red Shield Division claimed to have busted a temporary hideout of armed underground groups near Moirang Khunao.
According to another statement issued by PIB Defence Wing, after working on input and intercepts for over two months about targeting security forces some UG groups in the areas of Kumbi, Moirang, Sugnu and Dampi, Red Shield Division launched an operation in a Pat area adjacent to Moirang Khunao.
The operation led to recovery of four AK 47 rifles, sixteen magazines, 575 rounds of AK 47, five radio sets, a large quantity of explosives including grenades, assorted ammunition of other weapons and war like stores.
The success achieved is a result of sustained operations undertaken by Red Shield Division toward ensuring peace in the state, the statement added.
