Former president of the Kuki National Assembly and ex-MLA Paolen Haokip expired at his Saitu home last night.
He was 95.Last rites and customary rituals for the deceased were performed today at Saitu village.
A condolence service was also held in honour of the departed soul.
Among others, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip and MP Thangso Baite were also present at the condolence service.

Recalling the contributions of Paolen Haokip in the field of politics and for the cause of Kuki community, Ngamthang Haokip remarked that the demise of Paolen Haokip is a big loss not only for Kuki community but also for the whole Manipur State.
Apart from being a close associate of Maharaja Bodhchandra, Paolen Haokip was elected to the Manipur Territorial Council from Churachandpur constituency.
He joined Indian National Congress in 1957 and held the post of KNA president from 1967 to 1974 .
Paolen Haokip was also one leader who worked relentlessly for a distinguished political status for Kukis in addition to being a frontrunner in the Statehood movement.
He was elected to the first Manipur Legislative Assembly from Saitu AC in 1973 .
Paolen Haokip was a noted figure committed to territorial integrity of Manipur and sustained harmony among different communities of the State.
