Workshop on human trafficking & child protection held

Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) in collaboration with FXB India Suraksha, a Delhi based NGO, organized a two day workshop on 'Human Trafficking and Child Protection Systems' for the personnel of Border Guarding units of Assam Rifles at Moreh on June 24 and 25 .
The workshop was conducted as part of project 'Mukti' - an anti trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).
The two days training workshop was attended by around 80 personnel of Assam Rifles.
The main objective of the programme was to train the officials of the paramilitary force on strengthening vigilance as well as intervention mechanisms on combating human trafficking in Manipur, said AR.
Assam Rifles is entrusted with the role of guarding and protecting citizens living in remote areas and especially borders.
Realizing the importance of the issue of human trafficking and child protection in such a vulnerable State due to its geo - political location and sharing borders with Myanmar, a trained force for handling cases of trafficking and child protection is need of the hour, added AR.
Satya Prakash, programme manager, FXBIS, Sunil Meitei, project officer (Imphal) Project Mukti and Wungreiso A Sangh project officer (Ukhrul) Project Mukti attended the workshop as resource persons.
During the workshop, the personnel were trained on human trafficking issues.
The officials were explained about the vulnerability of the State and the role Assam Rifles has to play in combating human trafficking related crimes.
Different Sections of the Indian Penal Code, Acts such as Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Immoral Traffick Prevention Act,
1986 etc were also discussed, said AR .
