We should promote Sagol Kangjei: Ratan Thiyam

"Sagol Kangjei is a game which identifies Manipur.
We should conserve it in order to protect our identity", Director of Chorus Repertory Theatre Ratan Thiyam has stated.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inauguration of 1st AMUCO Trophy Polo Tournament-2012 organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.
Ratan Thiyam went on to say that Sagol Kangjei is an inseparable part of Manipuri culture.
So, people should take up united efforts to conserve and promote Sagol Kangjei.
He pointed out that there were numerous Kangjeibungs in the most villages of the state in the past.
However, one can see only a few Kangjeibungs today in the whole state.
Ratan also stressed the need to conserve grazing grounds for the ponies.
President of AMUCO, KT Rahaman, who presided over the function, explained that the aim of organising the tournament is to conserve Sagol Kangjei which has originated from Manipur and now become an international game.
Starting from this year, AMUCO will organise AMUCO Trophy every year on February 25 to coincide with Players' Day.
Winners and runners-up teams will be awarded RS 15,0000 and Rs 10,000 cash prizes respectively, he informed.
