Passenger bus service dying due to lack of transport policy

Imphal, July 22 2011:
Due to non implementation of a transport policy in the state passenger bus services in the state are on the verge of extinction, said Priyokumar Arambam, general secretary, All Manipur Bus Owners' Association today.
He said the unrestricted issuance of contract carrier permits has caused frequent traffic jams in Imphal city.
Priyokumar appealed to the Director Transport to stop issuing contract carrier permit until the government forms a proper transport policy.
He said that Transport Minister had assured the association to form a transport policy by 2010 when the association met him in 2009.Priyokumar demanded a proper transport policy by August 20 this year, Priyokumar said that the association will take up various forms of agitations against the government if it fails to implement transport policy within the timeline.
