Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the rally, CM Biren said that the world regards Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of peace and non violence and as a mark of respect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to observe the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi for a whole year and to organise cleanliness campaign for four months.
Today's event has been organised in accordance with this decision, he added.
Lauding the effort of the Prime Minister to protect the environment, Biren lamented that the wastes dumped at Imphal river, Nambul river and others are all deposited at Loktak Lake which in turn has considerably affected the lake ecosystem and condition.
Biren said that the people themselves are responsible for the pollution and appealed to all to work together to improve the condition for all.
