Maram Khullen keeps traditional wrestling alive

Keeping alive the legacy of demonstrating manhood and honor, the people of Maram Khullen still practic es the famous 'naked wrestling' which is held during the "Kanghi" festival.
A sacred traditional day for Maram menfolk to cleanse themselves by bathing in a pond in group before gathering at the chief's courtyard to wrestle and compete in long jump and other activities.
Amidst the folklores, wrestling and long jump, the festival is best known for its festive rice beer and dishes laid out for the visiting guest.
The festival was graced by 59th Mountain Brigade Commander Brigadier Dipankar Saha along with 34AR CO Colonel GK Mahindra, G2 Major Joshi, ADC members A Kapani, A Rang, Maram Union president RK Peter, SDSA president Pungdi Celestine, village leaders and other dignitaries.
The commander also extended financial assistance to the best wrestlers and interacted with the Maram chief and village elders.
