Dept of Taxes denies, clarifies

Referring to the news item published in this paper on June 29 under the head 'GST to come into force from July 1; New taxation gates likely to come up,' the Department ofT axes, Govt ofManipur has categorically denied the contents of the news item which attributed a source in the Taxation Dept.
In a statement, Commissioner of Taxes, Hrisheekesh Modak clarified that there is no plan to install new taxation gates in Manipur.
In fact, the GST Council Secretariat has clearly recommended closing down all the existing check posts in GST regime.
The statement further said that the GST regime will be enforced in Manipur as stipulated and there is no question of continuation of VAT regime after July 1, 2017 .
"The Dept observes that contents of the particular news item are based on poor understanding of GST and are likely to create unnecessary confusion and misunderstanding for the common people of Manipur," it said while appealing to all media fraternity not to publish misleading news items about GST.
In case of any doubt, the same may be clarified from the Dept of Taxes by way of official communication.
