Imphal, June 06 2021:
In view of the upcoming elections in 7 states, namely Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh; a meeting of state in-charges and general secretaries of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) units, presided over by national president JP Nadda was convened on Sunday.
According to a source from New Delhi, the two-day long meeting which commenced from Saturday is the first ever meeting conducted since the onset of the second wave of the pandemic.
The meeting discussed the ongoing assistance being provided by party workers to the people along with preparations for the upcoming polls in the seven states.
Except for Punjab, the remaining 6 states are being ruled by BJP.
Additionally, the Chief Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India had announced that as the conduct of polls for the 7 states are slated between February and May of 2022, the election dates could be pronounced at any given time.
The source further said that as the upcoming polls would serve as the 'semifinal' to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the meeting discussed how the party could continue to retain power.
Thus, the state in-charges and the national secretaries were instructed to select the party candidates well ahead of time and to ascertain the party's performances in all aspects.
On top of this, the BJP governments in the 6 states are to prepare progress reports to ascertain whether the works taken up in the last 5 years were truly accepted by the people or not and also the reactions on the same.
In addition to analysing the performances of the ministers in the said states, the party will be deploying micro units to study the feedback of the people in the constituencies of the sitting MLAs.
The micro units will also study the performance and popularity of the candidates wanting to contest the polls on BJP ticket.
Party workers will be assigned specific tasks to identify and assist the impoverished households as well.
The source continued that the party has taken a firm resolve to win in UP in 2024, after its failure to take West Bengal.
It would be a huge setback for BJP if it were to lose UP and as such, the party has instructed all its workers in the poll-bound states to provide mass assistance to the people of the said states.
The meeting on Sunday was also attended by BJP national secretaries Bhupendra Yadav, CT Ravi, Dushyant Gautam, Arun Singh, Dilip Saikia, BL Santosh and other leaders.
