Additional forces deployed to counter UNC ban: DGP

As a pre-emptive measure to counter the ban imposed by UNC on the ongoing National projects in the hill districts with effect from August 1, additional security forces have been deployed to ensure that works related with the projects are not interrupted at all.
Speaking to media persons today, DGP Shahid Ahmed said that Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed the State government to strengthen deployment of forces in all districts to maintain law & order situation and informed that necessary steps have been already taken up in this regard.
He further said that decision to deploy additional forces in any particular district will be taken from time to time and informed that SPs and COs have been instructed to take up necessary steps for ensuring that the ongoing works of National projects in the hill districts are not affected by the ban imposed by UNC.
The DGP assured that strict actions will be initiated against UNC if they resort to illegal activities.
Informing that the Police Department has also initiated necessary steps to control unwanted incidents that may arise from the ongoing movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the valley, the police chief said that inquiry into the allegation of highhandedness of police personnel on student protesters recently has been already started and assured that appropriate action will be taken up against those personnel who are found guilty.
The DGP went on to inform that interrogation against the eight NSCN (IM) cadres who were arrested in connection with the killing of a Member of ADC Ukhrul recently is going on and whether they were or not involved in the killing will be known once the interrogation is completed.
Saying that a total of 424 cases of crime committed by NSCN (IM) were registered with the Police Department so far, the DGP appealed to the public to extend co-operation with the measures taken up by police for restoring peace in the State.
