Stating that price of essential commodities is rising exorbitantly at Churachandpur amid the lockdown, Women Collective Against Price Rise has asked the district Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter at the earliest.
A press release jointly signed by Hatkholam, president Kuki Women Union, CCpur; J L Sawmi, president CCpur Joint Women Organisation and Hmar Women Association; Ching Ngaih Don, president Zomi Mother Association; R Lalkhumi, Chairperson MPC Women's Wing and A Nayani, president, Ima Leimaren Apunba Lup said that the price of essential commodities have suddenly skyrocketed as soon as the total lockdown was announced by the Government of Manipur.
Stating that rise of price of essential commodities and hoarding of food items occurred whenever there is a lockdown, blockade or bandh in Churachandpur, the joint release said that Lamka based businessmen, the suppliers and retailers, who are mostly non-locals stock-up food grains and refused to give out for sale immediately after the announcement of lockdown or curfew.
Based on a random survey in different shops in and around Lamka town bazaars, we learnt that potatoes which were earlier sold at Rs 30 per kg are now sold at Rs 50 per kg while the price of a bag of rice (25kg) has risen from 1,000, 1,200, they added.
They then urged the DC to look into this matter and ensure that such practice should stop for the good of all.
