3 days police remand for accused husband and brother

Following the suspicious death of one Chongtham (N) Ayekpam (O) Marina Devi of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba who was found hanging in her bedroom, angry family members and locals tried to attack the husband of the deceased as well as his younger brother, when they were being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today, from police custody.
Late Marina's husband, Ayekpam Chinglensana (27) and his brother Ayekpam Naocha (21) s/o Janeshwor of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba, were produced before the Court along with a prayer for remanding them to 3 days in police custody.
When they were brought to the Court by a team of Lamphel PS, the mob tried to attack them but unwanted incidents were prevented by a large number of police personnel who were deployed at the complex.
During the Court proceeding, the IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that Chinglensana and Naocha were arrested yesterday night after they surrendered themselves before Lamphel PS in connection with the case.
The IO narrated that on February 14, Imphal West Control Room received information at around 2.30 am that a housewife, Marina, was found hanging inside her bedroom.
She was evacuated to RIMS but was declared brought dead by the doctor on duty, the IO explained adding that following the information, a regular UD case was registered for investigation.
On the same day, a team of Forensic Science Unit Imphal West in the presence of the Executive Magistrate concerned, conducted inquest of the crime scene.
The necessary post mortem was also conducted with full video coverage.
Then, on February 16, the elder brother of the deceased lodged a complaint casting suspicion against Chinglensana, his younger brother Naocha and elder sister Ayekpam Ichan, claiming that in the past, his younger sister (the victim) informed him that they always used to torture/harass her and as such, a regular FIR was registered against the trio, the IO explained, praying for three days custody of Chinglensana and Naocha.
On the other hand, the counsels of the two individuals filed remand objection as well as bail applications.
After going through the submissions of both sides, the Court rejected the bail applications and instead remanded the two individuals to police custody till February 20 .
After the Court proceedings, the two individuals were brought outside when the angry locals gathered outside and inside the Court complex began attacking them by throwing slippers, water bottles and other objects at them.
However, the duo were escorted to a police vehicle and swiftly taken away from the complex.
