Imphal, February 18 2020:
A day after the release of Huiyen Lanfi, which was reportedly designed by Yening Dress and Design for Thang-Ta students/practitioners, the Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has come out strongly against the designs and ideas of the uniforms, labelling them unacceptable.
Speaking to media persons at KIMACS office at Palace Compound today, its public and information secretary Thangjam Suraj said that KIMACS initiated and developed the syllabus of Thang-Ta so as to include it at private and Government schools as a subject.
He claimed that KIMACS also came up with the uniforms of Thang-Ta students two years back after deliberating with the titular king and Thang-Ta office in Sana Konung, after wearing Pheijom during Thang-Ta classes turned out to be impractical and uncomfortable for the students.
KIMACS has also been supplying uniforms for class and for performance acts, he further stated.
Suraj further mentioned that the dress design released by Yening Dress and Design in association with Apunba Manipur Huiyen Lanlong Lup, is identical to the uniform of KIMACS, which was released around two years back.
It is unfortunate that the designer along with the Lup had not discussed the matter with the Sana Konung and KIMACS before it went ahead with the launching of the dress, he said.
Saying that the recent dress/uniform of Yening Dress and Design is not acceptable, Suraj warned against supplying the dress/uniform to any schools/ institutes.
Cautioning Yening Dress and Design to stop manufacturing the Huiyen Lanfi, he further warned that any person found using or wearing the said dress will have to bear the responsibility in case any unwanted incident happens in the future.
He further warned against supply of the dress to Keishampat Job Centre and Queensland in Konung Mamang.
He also appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
KIMACS advisor Irom Ibocha was also present at the press meet.
