Inspector John pardoned with warning

After a serious look into the counter affidavits filed by Assam Rifles and Inspector John, who committed an offence of entering into the house of a petitioner, the Supreme Court-appointed independent Inquiry Commission today pardoned the offence of Inspector John but with a warning against repeating similar offence in future.
On the fourth day of the inquiry proceedings, a sub-committee constituted by the Commission yesterday with three advocates as members today conducted a spot enquiry in a house at Phoubakchao where the petitioners claimed that they had seen Md Azad Khan being killed by security forces in cold -blood through a window of the house.
Three members in the sub-committee are advocate Raeesa Vakil, advocate L Sitendra and advocate Shyam Sharma.
After the spot inspection and minute study of the site, the three members submitted one report each to the Inquiry Commission.
Apart from recording the reports submitted by the three advocates who conducted the spot inquiry, the Inquiry Commission also recorded the photographs and documents submitted by the petitioners, Manipur police Commandos and the Assam Rifles today.
It is said that these recorded files could be used and examined by the counsels only in only relevant cases under inquiry.
The Inquiry Commission also directed the counsels of Assam Rifles, Manipur Police Commandos and the petitioners to deposit an amount of Rs 5000 in cash or cheque each through the Secretary of the Commission issued in the name of advocate L Sitendra, Shyam Sharma and Raeesa Vakil respectively.
The recipients should submit the receipt copies accordingly.
Senior advocate Mukul Sinha, who is the counsel of the petitioners, crossed examined two doctors who had conducted post-mortem in six different cases of alleged extrajudicial killings under the purview of the Inquiry Commission.
The counsel also cross-examined the witnesses of the Police.
The whole statements of the both cross examinations were subsequently recorded by the Commission.
The civilian witness of the alleged extra judicial killing of Md Azad Khan and E Kiranjit were also cross-examined by the counsels of AR and Manipur police and the proceedings recorded by the Inquiry Commission on the fourth day of the inquiry today.
