'Develop society with a reading habit : Parijat

Asserting the important role of writers in leading the society to the path of truth, Agriculture, Labour and Employement Minister, Ph Parijat today said the society with people having a culture of reading books moves faster in the development race.
Releasing a book of short stories "Chandrabala" written by Thokchom Dilipkumar, today at a function held at Manipur Press Club, the minister said that speeches given in meetings by intellectuals, educationists or others give a great impact on society but they are forgotten after the event.
The minister said that the development pace is accelerated when people develop the habit of reading.
Good books can bring about a revolution in a society or state or country, he added.
He urged the writers present at the function to bring out good books which would give a great impact towards development.
The book release function, which minister Parijat graced as chief guest, was presided over by Sahitya AKademy award winner N Kunjamohon.
M Rajen and M Priyobarta discussed about the contents of the book at the concluding part of the function.
