Two-day awareness cum training programme on POCSO Act begins

A two-day awareness cum training programme on "Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012 and adoption regulations", jointly organised by District Child Protection Units, Imphal East, Imphal West and Childline Imphal East started today at Department of Anthropology, Manipur University.
Director, Childline Imphal, Professor S Jibonkumar Singh, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), Sumatibala Ningthoujam and Professor W Nabakumar graced the event as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Sumatibala Ningthoujam said that, under the Act, severe punishments including death penalty are given to accused involved in sexual assault and sexual harassment.
If officials concerned are found neglecting their duties regarding child welfare, MCPCR has the right to take up stern actions against them, Sumatibala informed.
She urged all teachers/lecturers to organise consultation meeting with the student's guardian in a bid to protect the students from such offences.
