Condolences pour in for Thotshang Shaiza

Sorrowful condolences poured in from different quarters for senior journalist and former president of the Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA), who succumbed to Covid-19 at JNIMS, Imphal on June 12 .
Different civil society organisations including Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) and Ukhrul District Photography Association (UDPA) expressed their condolences over the sudden demise of the senior journalist.
"We are saddened to hear the untimely demise of a brave son, who had contributed much to the Tangkhul community as a journalist," TNWL secretary Kaphaoleng Angkang said in a statement.
"We have lost a wonderful person," he said, while adding that the contributions Shaiza had made to the community have been well acknowledged and appreciated.
In its condolence message, TSL president Veronica Zingkhai expressed disbelief, sorrow and despair over the sudden passing of Shaiza.
"He was an outspoken but sensible man who was always there to give valuable suggestions and help us out in various activities," she said.
Stating that Shaiza's passing is a great loss for the society, she said: "But the Almighty had a greater purpose for him".
Expressing its condolences, Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) also recalled Thotshang Shaiza as one of the most outspoken and fearless journalists from the district.
"When the world is facing censorship from both state and non-state actors, few people like him have the courage to uphold the true spirit of freedom of expression and confront intimidation.
We will continue to cherish the courage of the strong man in him," said professor Yarumgam Awungshi, president of TNSD.
The organisations sought blessings, strength and solace of the Almighty God for the bereaved Shaiza family.
Since his entry into journalism in 2009, Shaiza had been working as a district correspondent for The Aja Daily till his death.
He was also associated with Imphal-based ISTV News and had contributed news reports to Impact TV.
He had served consecutive two terms as the president of UDWJA from 2015 till 2021 .
He was the association's advisor till his last day.
