Bishnupur, June 10 2019:
Claiming that the recent statement made by the convenor of Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL), in connection with the controversial Kabui dance performance presented at Thangjing Moirang Haraoba, has the tendency to distort the sanctity of Thangjing Moirang Haraoba, Thangjing Seva Mandal and several priests and priestesses among others, secretary of Thangjing Seva Mandal, P Brajabidhu has asked the convenor to take back his statement by June 12 .
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at the premises of Ibudhou Thangjing, secretary of Thangjing Seva Mandal, P Brajabidhu said that the opinion made by the Kabui's leaders that the dresses worn by the artistes are indecent and non-traditional, is quite reasonable and valid and we totally support the work taken up by the UKAL to protect the cultural identity of the State, he added.
The statement of the convenor that "the ancient practice of Lai Haraoba has been threatened" made in some local news channels is condemnable and he should take back his words so that the purity of Lai Haraoba is not jeopardised", the secretary added and asked the convenor to come to the Mandal before June 12 and discuss the matter with the members.
