After being in police custody for 10 days, Naorem Dijamani was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today as a prime suspect in the brutal murder of his wife, (L) Naorem (O) Rekha, who is also the mother of renowned fashion designer Robert Naorem.
Naorem Dijamani was produced before the Court under heavy security and the IO of the case submitted a prayer for his (Dijamani) further remand for smooth investigation of the case.
On the other hand, Dijamani's counsel filed an application to release him on bail.
After going through the case records and hearing both sides, the Court remanded Dijamani to judicial custody till June 24.During the hearing, the IO submitted that on May 29, Dijamani lodged a written complaint to Singjamei PS claiming that the same day, between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, his wife, Thokchom (N) Naorem (O) Rekha, was killed by some unknown persons while she was alone at home.
The complainant also claimed that at the time of the incident, he was at his office at District Consumer Redressal Forum, Sangaiprou.
Soon after the information was received, a team of Singjamei police rushed to the spot and found the body lying at the corridor of the first floor inside the house, surrounded by the family members (including the prime suspect).
The police team cordoned off the spot and the forensic science team, in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, conducted inquest of the body and the surrounding area after which the body was taken to RIMS morgue for post mortem.
The IO mentioned that Dijamani was also not able to explain many of the questions raised during the investigation nor was he able to justify many of his actions since the incident came to light and there are ample evidences to believe that he might have committed the crime before he left for office and then concocted a story.
The IO continued that as per post mortem analysis and the crime scene report about the nature of the injuries, there is a probability that the weapon used in the crime is the blood stained metallic incense stick stand which was recovered from the ground floor of the residence and added that it is highly suspected that Dijamani murdered his wife, even though the motive is not fully clear yet.
As such, the IO prayer for further judicial custody remand of the prime suspect.
On the other hand, Dijamani's defense counsel submitted that he has been detained on ground of mere suspicion without looking for the main culprit who has committed the crime.
After going through the case records and hearing both sides, the Court remanded Dijamani to judicial custody till June 24 .
