AR recovers riflescopes

Assam Rifles under IGAR(S) on June 8 seized 16 riflescopes with different magnifications of foreign origin at PVCP Khudengthabi, foiling attempt to smuggle the scopes into Imphal, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).
Based on specific input received from reliable source regarding smuggling of arms and ammunitions, a team of Khudengthabi Post stopped a white colour Bolero with registration number MN 02 G 3230 travelling from Moreh to Imphal.
On carrying out thorough check of the vehicle, rifle scopes and rifle scopes with laser sight of different magnifications were found hidden inside the vehicle, said AR.
The recovered items include three riflescopes with laser sight of different magnifications worth Rs 9,600 and 13 riflescopes of different magnifications worth Rs 38,900.The recovered items have been handed over to Customs Department, Moreh for further investigation, said AR.
The vehicle was being driven by one Naorem Ibomcha Meitei (36), s/o Kala Singh resident of Khumujamba Meitei Leikai, Churachandpur district.
N Ibomcha failed to produce any valid documents for import of the restricted items.
He will be handed over to "appropriate authorities", said AR.
Riflescopes are restricted items list as per DGFT policy.
They enhance long range engagement capability of small arms and laser sights enhance night capabilities.
