Imphal, August 08 2011:
A local court at Thoubal today issued arrest warrants against three activists of the Anjuman Islam-E-Mija Shah on charges of kidnapping and raping a 25-year old married woman on July 28 last after the victim's mother approached the court.
The victim, *** , told reporters in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club in Imphal that the three activists seized her along with a box of SP capsules which was kept by her husband Md Salim and raped her overnight at the residence of one of the accused before setting her free the next day.
She identified the three accused as Habibulla (28), son of Md Najiruddin of Lilong Dam, Mahei (30), son of Md Abanbi of Haoreibi and Hasan (31), son of Md Yaima of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
She was blindfolded and her hands were tied before she was taken to the house of Habibulla, one of the accused, where she was subjected to repeated rapes and brutally beaten with a stick by her kidnappers.
She was forcibly undressed and raped by the three accused several times through the night, said her mother.
After being freed by her captives the next day, she returned home only to be spurned by her husband on the pretext of some primordial Islamic law that if a married woman stays away from the house for a night without being accompanied by her husband, she cannot be allowed back into the house.
She now stays with her parents.
