Imphal, July 15 2011:
The All Manipur Hill Teachers's Association (AMHTA) has raised strong objection against the Government's decision to bring all Elementary schools in hill districts under Autonomous District Councils.
The decision of the Government to bring Elementary schools under ADCs which are currently under the Directorate of Education (S) is an attempt to degrade the status of education, the AMHTA said in a press release.
Saying that hill teachers would never accept such policy of the Government, the association appealed to the authority to annul the same decision at the earliest.
The recent order to transform SMDC to SMC for which an elected member of ADC should be chairman and the bank account should be jointly operated by Headmaster/Headmistress and the DRDA Executive Director was both illogical and smacked of a design to further degrade the status of education in hill districts.
Decrying that the authority has failed to take up any action despite the association's memorandum to cancel the same order, AMHTA said that it was ready to launch a strike.
