Mankhap Phanit kicks off at Tolloi village

The three-day indigenous Tangkhul festival, Mankhap Phanit (plantation festival) was kicked off at Toloi village today.
The inaugural function of the festival, being celebrated under the theme, 'Faith without work is dead' was graced by MPCC general secretary Victor Keishing and Environment and Ecology Wing senior scientific officer Preshow MK Shimray as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
The festival was opened with presentation of welcome song by students of Talui Elite Christian English school.
Speaking at the occasion, Victor Keishing stated that in view of the changing political scenario across the world, people of the State need to pursue meaningful politics.
By analysing and understanding politics in its real sense, people should elect a real leader in the forthcoming Assembly elections, Victor Keishing said.
Preshow MK Shimray said that Tangkhul identity is being sustained by preserving and promoting the age old heritage and culture even as Tangkhul community embraced Christianity more than a century back.
The festival would also feature competition in different sports disciplines as well as cultural programmes.
The inaugural function was also attended by Block Congress Committee functionaries of Ukhrul, Phungyar and Chingai constituencies, office bearers of Toloi village authority, students and church leaders.
