Imphal, July 15 2011:
The Movement for Tribal People's Rights Manipur (MTRPM) has expressed serious concern over the alleged misappropriation of Rs 5.95 crores under Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Plan for the year 2010-11 in Tribal Development Department.
According to a press release issued by MTPRM, out of Rs 4 crores sanctioned for different agriculture and horticulture schemes, Rs 3.64 crores have been already withdrawn by the department.
Under Aid to Voluntary Organisations, tribal artisans/weavers, another Rs 2.31 crores have also been withdrawn in the name of fictitious and bogus beneficiaries.
The TD Department is not able to produce the beneficiaries' lists used for withdrawing the amount, and the APR lists are still missing.
Moreover, the PMS scholarship for SC/ST students have also been misappropriated due to which payment of PMS scholarship has been submitted.
The MTPRM urged the Chief Minister to conduct physical verification of the beneficiaries with the help of security personnel.
It further urged the Chief Minister to institute a high-level enquiry into this deep rooted corruption and irregularities in TD Department for the sake of transparency and justice.
