One day training on agri marketing held

Manipur Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium and Green Growers Manipur jointly organized a one day training programme on Agriculture Market at the Training Hall of DIC Porompat, Imphal East yesterday.
The inaugural function of the training programme was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) Letkhogin Haokip, ICAR, NEHR Manipur Centre, Lamphel Joint Director I Meghachandra, Directorate of Trade, Commerce & Industries Joint Director K Lunkim and Manipur Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC) Project Coordinator MS Khaidem as chief guest and presidium members respectively.
Speaking at the function, Letkhogin Haokip underscored the importance of emphasizing on feasible aspects while imparting skills and knowledge to the farmers/trainees during training programmes.
He pointed out that farmers/trainees often find incongruities in practical when they try to apply the skills and knowledge they learned from training programmes, citing that double cropping may not be able to apply in areas where there are no proper irrigation facilities and farming is completely dependent on the landscape as well as the climatic condition.
Observing that enhancing or doubling farmer's income require finding appropriate strategies and policies for agriculture, Letkhogin opined that both the farmers as well as the authorities concerned have to understand the policies and strategies related with agriculture.
The basic necessities and problems of farmers have to be emphasized and discussed at length while conducting training programmes, the Additional Chief Secretary added.
On the other hand, MS Khaidem stressed on the need of proper marketing for agricultural produces in the effort to enhance the farmers' income.
Noting that producing quality products, value added products, advertisement and sorting out technical errors are vital for marketing of agricultural produces, he said that genetically healthy varieties of produces and appropriate budget for advertising should be maintained.
He also informed that there are soft loans for small farmers' consortiums under certain schemes.
Later, a technical session was held as part of the training programme.
