Hubby remanded to judicial custody

Ashem Sunikar 35 s/o (L) Priyokumar of Awang Naorem Leikai, whose wife committed suicide on October 7 after he allegedly assaulted her the previous night, was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today and taken into judicial custody till October 26.After producing the accused before the Court today, the IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that on October 8, the father of the deceased woman lodged a complaint at Singjamei PS claiming that his daughter had died at her husband's residence the previous day (October 7) at around 5 pm.
The complainant explained that a few months after his daughter got married, she began claiming that she was being tortured mentally and physically by her husband's family members from time to time.
The complaint further mentioned that on the fateful day, the complainant was informed by one of his daughter's friends that his daughter had succumbed due to the beating/assault by her husband and other family members.
However, the complainant was later informed by the husband's family members that his daughter had been taken to hospital as she had committed suicide.
The IO submitted that during the course of investigation the accused husband was arrested by police and taken into custody and in police custody, he revealed mat they (he and the victim) had known each other since 2012 and they got married in December last year.
The accused disclosed that he was unemployed when they got married and as such there were several arguments between him and his wife mainly regarding financial matters.
He further revealed that on October 6, after having dinner, an argument broke out between him and his wife and during the argument he lost control and manhandled his wife by pulling her hair and slapping her.
The accused disclosed the next morning, on October 7, his wife asked her parents to take her back home but they persuaded her not to take such steps.
In the meantime, he made a phone call to his father in law and her aunties to come to his house to settle the matter.
The IO informed that as per the revelation of the accused husband, his wife's family members arrived at his home but after much discussion they left the house leaving behind his wife.
The husband further claimed that after the meeting, his wife remained inside their bedroom while he went out on some domestic works.
However, after a few minutes the husband returned to find his wife dead and hanging from the ceiling fan of the bedroom.
The IO submitted that the investigation conducted so far has revealed that the accused assaulted his wife during the heated argument on the night of October 6 and on the next day, the woman committed suicide.
As such, it is highly required for the accused to be remanded into judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case, the 10 prayed.
Satisfied with the prayer, the Court remanded the accused husband to judicial custody till October 26 .
