Awareness programme held

A one day awareness program on Gender Based- Violence was held today at Waiton Makha community hall in connection with the International Fortnight Observation protesting Violence against women.
The awareness programme was jointly organised by Waiton Gram Panchayat, All Waiton Youth Club and Meirapaibi and Women Action for Development respectively.
Waiton GP Member Surbala; Prince Club Waiton Makha Leikai president A Tejmani, Advocate Laimayum Sevananda and Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary Women Action for Development, attended the programme.
Altogether, 100 persons attended the awareness program.
The main objectives of organising the program was to sensitize the people on the rising issues of crime against women in the State and how the people of the area where the program was organised can take an active role in preventing such crime.
Secretary of WAD Sobita highlighted the importance of observing the International Fortnight Campaign Protesting Violence Against Women.
She dwelt in detail on the issues of human trafficking, domestic violence, and the increasing rate of sexual assault among the minors, disable persons as well as adults, mob violence etc.
She highlighted some of the programs which will be organised till December 12.Resource persons Advocate Sevananda, Aphy Co-ordinator of WAD and T Ambrabati, secretary, Women Empowerment for Justice spoke in length about the various laws and practises and its impact on women, the psychological and social impact of sexual assault victims and what can be done in order to prevent them from depression, trauma and anxiety etc.
