Korungthang assures adequate doctors

Health Minister DK Korungthang has assured that around 300 doctors would be deployed by the Health Department so as to improve the health sector.
The Minister made the promise during a routine inspection trip along with Education Minister Dr Kh Ratan and IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip around Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency area.
He said, "The State Government is trying to improve the condition of the health sector by addressing the shortage of doctors in State hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres and for this the Cabinet will try to hand over the task of appointing around 300 doctors to the MPSC".
The Government would aim to provide at least three doctors per primary health centre even in the remotest part of the State, he promised.
Korungthang pointed out that the hospitals and health care centres would be staffed with grade four employees and if the plan bears fruit, then the people would not face shortage of doctors and trained staff whenever they visit a nearby centre.
The doctor barracks and staff quarters of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency primary health centre were almost complete and would be inaugurated soon, he added.
He assured that all pending plans and improvements for Phoubakchao primary health centre would be executed with utmost urgency thereby enabling the people to avail proper treatment facilities.
During the trip, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip said that authorities and engineers were looking into the recent sinking of the Imphal river banks around Mayang Imphal area due to the sudden water flow from Ithai Barrage and would try to come up with possible solutions at the earnest.
Education Minister Dr Kh Ratan also said that a temporary reconstruction work would be taken up so that residents would not have to wait too long.
