Imphal, November 29 2016:
Key Rongmei civil society organisations have appealed to the United Naga Council (UNC) to lift the ongoing indefinite economic blockade in the interest of the general public.
Joint meeting of the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) and its frontal organisations namely Rongmei Luh Phuam Manipur (RLPM), Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM), Rongmei Students' Organisation Manipur (RSOM) and RLCM was held twice on November 27 and 29 .
Taking serious note of the untold grievances being endured by the people of both the hills and valley of Manipur due to the indefinite economic blockade imposed by the UNC and demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the joint meetings unanimously decided to appeal to all concerned to lift the economic blockade and pave the way for dialogue between the State Government and the UNC.
The State Government should immediately invite the UNC for a talk and bring an amicable settlement to the apprehension about granting full fledged district status to Sadar Hills and Jiribam, read the second resolution.
The third resolution said that arrested UNC president Gaidon Kamei and information secretary Sankhui Stephen should be released immediately without any condition to pave the way for a dialogue between the State Government and the UNC, conveyed a press release issued by RNCM general secretary Achong Gangmei.
