IED blast near Kwakeithel PO

Imphal, September 23 2012:
In yet another attack on security forces, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected armed UGs exploded near the Kwakeithel Police outpost along Tiddim road at around 12:10 pm today.
According to reports culled from the site of the incident, the explosion took place soon after a security vehicle coming from Imphal to Tulihal Airport passed the spot.
However, no casualties have been reported in the blast.
A team of Manipur Police arrived at the spot soon after the blast and inspected the area.
According to police reports, the bomb was an IED triggered via a remote control.
Prior to the blast, people of the area have reportedly informed the police about a bomb like object lying abandoned near the blast site.
However, when a team of bomb experts from the Manipur Police Department came and checked the object placed inside a cartoon box, some remnants of an IED were found.
It may be mentioned that a similar bomb blast took place along Tiddim road near Tiddim ground on September 8 last causing injuries to an Army jawan and a civilian.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was staged at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai Community hall in protest against yesterday's bomb attack at the residence of one Loitongbam Kesho, who is the Executive Engineer of PDA.
