No State officer in line to get IFS

Imphal, September 23 2012:
There is no officer/staff in Manipur Forest Service who can get Indian Forest Service (IFS) in the next 10 years.
On the other hand, Manipur Forest Service has been making no direct recruitment which means there would be a huge gap in Forest Service.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that the situation grew worse following the recent ban on any kind of recruitment in Government departments.
This was in addition to the fact that Manipur Forest Service was not making any recruitment during the past 20 years.
As a result of the Government's decision not to recruit any more Rangers as well as Manipur Forest Service (MFS) Grade-II officers, more than 20 posts which can be filled up through MFS either by promotion or direct recruitment are lying vacant.
Even if the State Government relaxes its ban and recruit MFS officers, they must serve for at least eight years before they are eligible for IFS.
On the other hand, officers who have been working as Rangers for more than 20 years are not getting any departmental promotion.
Some officers have even retired as Rangers.
Such lackadaisical attitude of the State Government has virtually closed all the avenues for students and professionals who wish to joint forest service.
Whereas forest departments across the world have assumed vital importance in view of the global climate change, the State Government is indifferent.
