Imphal, June 20 2013:
It is said that the backstage artistes, editors, visual composers, etc, are the unsung heroes of modern cinematic development.
Vicky Sharma Laimayum, a young Visual Effect Compositor is more or less one such person.
But without the contribution of these unsung heroes, some of the mega Hollywood and Bollywood action, thriller, animation, graphic movies might have not seen the light of the day.
Could you imagine Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi' or James Cameron's 'Avatar' without visual effect? .
After a 3-year diploma in VFX Specialization Course from Frameboxx Animation & VFX in New Delhi, Vicky Sharma Laimayum, s/o Kunjabihari Laimayum Sharma of Khwai Nagamapal Laimayum started his career in the "fantasy world of visual effect" with PRIME FOCUS, a Mumbai based global visual effects and stereo 3D conversion service provider in 2010 as a Visual Effect Composer.
Sharing some of the tit-bits about his career to Hueiyen Lanpao, Vicky said that except for youths and some middle aged people, around 90 % of the moviegoers wrongly presume the work of Visual Effect as film editing but both are different entities.
Some of the projects in which Vicky had taken pivotal roles in giving new meaning and life to films through his magic of visual effects include 'My soul to Taken'; 'Star Wars Part-1'; 'Narnia- The Voyage of the Dawn Trader'; 'Harry Potter - Deathly Hollows-part 1'; 'Harry Potter - Deathly Hollows-part 2'; 'The Green Lantern'; 'Transformers'; 'Clash of the Titans'; 'Wrath of Titans'; 'Cats n Dogs'; 'Shrek'; 'Harry Potter Half Blood Prince'; 'Ra.One' (Bollywood); 'Immortal'; 'Man in Black-4' and 'Star Wars Part-2' .
His talent in visual effect composition widely appreciated, Vicky swiftly climbed the ladder of career from a mere Visual Effect Compositor to the level of Co-Team leader in Roto Department and Team Leader and then a trainer of 132 trainees at View-D Stereo Compositing department of PRIME FOCUS in just 3-year of his stint in the company.
When asked about prospect of Visual Effect Compositors, Vicky retorted that it's a challenging and tough profession that demands determination and creativity.
But, India is the biggest market for visual effect and animation in the entire continent; where one can excel in the line if he/she is ready to take challenges ahead.
"I am not good in academic, but since my childhood, there was always a craze for watching animated movies.
I just trail my fantasy of visual effects used in movies as a profession with ardent support from my parents and elder sister," Vicky said, adding that 'the bottom-line is that parent shouldn't force kids to assume a profession but to help in exploring talents of their wards.
"If one is serious to choose the profession, I would like to suggest youngsters to do self research about it before they embark on visual effect/graphic/animation line.
Remember the line from the book 'You Can Win' by Shiv Khera-a man who wins is the man who thinks he can.', Vicky said.
Though, he gained the fame what every visual effect composer want in their life, Vicky left his Mumbai workplace in January 2013 and returned home with an aim to give a boost to Manipuri film industry.
Under his own 'Lai Creative Art Studio' being established at his Khwai Nagamapal residence, Vicky is now all set to give a dimple in the up-surging Manipuri cinema.
Commendably, in his 6-month home stay, Vicky has already worked in 3 music video albums and a documentary.
To a question on use of technology in Manipur film industry, he said, "except for some technological development, music and songs of Manipuri movies are not inferior to other regional counterparts.
A significant development has been witnessed in the last 2-3 years, if this trend continued for another 3-4 years, Manipur film industries can compete even with other big and established film industries," Vicky said with conviction.
