4 hurt in police action at JNIMS

Imphal, February 13 2015 :
Four persons including a woman were injured in a scuffle with police at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) on Thursday.
According to sources, the incident took place between residents of Kongkham Leikai and authorities of JNIMS.
The residents were protesting against the JNIMS authorities for block a passageway by constructing concrete wall, which passes through the JNIMS campus.
In response, JNIMS authorities have deployed police personnel at the disputed site to prevent unwanted action of the residents.
It may be recalled that the road serves as connecting road between Kongkham Leikai and Porompat.
Residents said JNIMS has been trying to close the road for a long time and charged that action of JNIMS has led to demise of an elderly people as medical treatment could not be provided timely.
On Thursday at 1 pm, on the directive of JNIMS director an excavator removes the wooden bridge and in retaliation residents protested the action.
However, police personnel prevented the residents from disturbing the work.
In the evening, SP and Additional SP of Imphal East arrived and tried to assist the process of blocking the passageway.
The officers also lathi charged the protesting residents.
The helpless residents were saved from the actions of the police and JNIMS authorities by MLA of Khurai A/C Ng Bijoy.
L\ater on the intervention of MLA, it was agreed that JNIMS will provide a passageway to the residents.
