JCILPS to boycott I-Day, asks all 60 MLAs to quit

Imphal, August 12, 2014: Pledging that it will continue with its ongoing protest till the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State is fulfilled, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has demanded resignation of all 60 MLAs for failing to enact law to save indigenous people which are facing serious threat from unchecked influx of non-locals.

Addressing a press meet at its office, Ibotombi Khuman, convener of JCILPS pointed out that rampant influx of outsiders is continuing in spite of the concerted movement launched for implementation of ILP system and alleged that some MLAs are encouraging the non-locals as vote bank in their respective constituencies.

He stated that the failure of the government to implement the ILP system for the last many years has attributed to the alarming rise in the number of outsiders in the State today.

Announcing that the committee will not take part in Independence Day celebration on August 15 in protest against the government's failure to enforce ILP system, he warned of launching different form of agitations including stopping of construction worn on railway line and Trans Asian Highways passing the State till ILP system is implemented.

He also demanded the government to enact law to prohibit non-locals from buying land in the State.

Informing that volunteers of the committee rushed to Kanglatongbi area acting on tip-off that around 12 non-locals coming from Dimapur have entered the city from Kanglatongbi but failed to locate them, he observed that the State has been witnessing demographic imbalance due to rampant influx of outsiders.

The government has enacted law to protect endangered Sangai but ironically there is no such law to protect indigenous people, he lamented.

Maintaining that the ongoing demand for implementation of ILP system spearheaded by the committee is legitimate and reasonable, he also condemned the highhandedness of police on student protesters who are taking part in the movement for implementation of ILP system in the State.

Meanwhile, sit in protest demonstrations and public meeting continued to be held in different parts to exert pressure on the Government to implement the Inner Line Permit system.

Some of the places where such demonstrations were witnessed included RIMS Gate Lamphel, Langjing Achouba community hall, Patsoi Part-III, Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel, Hiyanglam Hiramei Haorei Laimang, Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai Bamon Mandop, Lamjao Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Hiyanglam Makha Leikai school ground; Wabagai Keithel Macha; Salam Leikai, Chingkha and Meisnam Leikai in Thanga-Karang; Paona Bazar Kalhulong Primary School, Lalambung Makhong near MM Gas; Khurai Heigrumakhong, Koirengei Urum Mapal Community hall, Keishampat Lairembi, Waithou Thiyam, Thoubal Mela ground, Nilakuthi, Maibam Konjil, Wakha, Tera Bus Parking, Moirang Khunou, Sagolband Lukram Leirak, Moirang Kokilbon, Wangoo Terakhong, Nongpok Sekmai, Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Wangkhei Thangapati Mapal, etc.

Along Pangei side, Diesel Auto Owners cum Drivers Union, local meira paibis and students also staged a mass sit-in-protest cum public meeting at Pangei Bazar today and resolved to launch a non-cooperation movement against the non-locals until the demand for implementation of Inner Liner Permit system is fulfilled.
