Thoubal, June 06 2021:
In a shocking incident, a doctor posted in the Covid Care Centre set up at GNM School of Nursing, which is located within Thoubal district hospital complex, made the caretaker of a patient wear PPE for connecting oxygen of another inmate in the centre.
Subsequently, inmates of the CCC protested against the conduct of the doctor on Saturday around 9 pm.
According to sources, a person, who is a caretaker of his father undergoing treatment on the first floor of the CCC, was made to wear PPE and connect the oxygen of another patient on bed number 8 of the ground floor.
As other patients got suspicious about the person in the PPE suit, they questioned whether he was a staff of the hospital and found out that he is the caretaker of another patient in the centre.
He has been identified as Md Sohen of Lilong.
Dumfounded as to how and under whose authority a caretaker of a patient undergoing treatment in the centre was made to wear the PPE suit and entrusted to connect oxygen of another patients, other inmates rose up in revolt against the authority.
Upon hearing the news of the incident, a team of Thoubal Police led by OC and CDO rushed to the centre and tried to pacify the angry inmates.
Speaking to media persons, an inmate recounted that the said person came to the centre four days back to take care of his Covid positive father.
Moreover, both the person and the doctor posted in the centre are from Lilong, the inmate added.
The inmate contended that such acts of substituting the work of the staff by another non-staff are being done as the doctors are not sincere in their work and do not want to be near Covid positive patients.
After giving a patient hearing to the grievances of the angry inmates, Thoubal PS OC L Joy talked with the authorities of the hospital and assured the inmates that an investigating will be conducted so as to take up necessary action.
