CCpur, September 29 2020:
Construction works on NH-102B - Churachandpur to Tuivai have resumed after a brief standoff over land compensation rates with village chiefs as the local administration has managed to settle an agreement acceptable to both the parties in a meeting held yesterday.
Sources said yesterday's meeting that broke the ice on the standoff was attended by officials from the DC office, chief associations, and the highway extension affected association.
Following the breakthrough, the chief association clarified their stand saying they are not against the development works but are against the unfair treatment on land compensation, and subsequently gave the green signal to go ahead with the road expansion works.
The NH-102B which connects Churachandpur town with neighbouring Mizoram was set for expansion to a double lane under 6 packages with the NHIDCL given the task to carry out the works.
Though a huge quantity of heavy machinery had arrived to carry out the construction works, opposition from several quarters over land compensation rates delayed the work.
The standoff even led the NHIDCL management to write to the Chief Secretary with a suggestion that the works may have to be cancelled if the standoff continues.
As agreed in the meeting yesterday, a joint inspection team composing of officials from the district administration, the chief associations and the work agencies today visited several locations along the highway where expansion works began.
The team visited the camps of workers set for implementing packages 1a and 2b located at Lamjang, pakage 2a and 2b located at Maukot and package 4a located at Khuanggin.
