To protest absence of DTO, IKS shuts Transport office

Ukhrul, November 21 2017:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Ukhrul District Student Organization shut down the District Transport Office, indefinitely, following the prolonged absence of District Transport Officer.
A team of TKS executive members led by Redeem locked the Transport office and asserted that the office will remain closed until District Transport Officer is permanently stationed at Ukhrul.
Speaking to media persons, irregularity of the transport officer has failed to run the Transport office smoothly, the public has frequently raised complaints against the negligence of the office in works like issuing of vehicle registration number or smart cards registration, in time.
TKS executive member Redeem said that only four staff were found present during an inspection conducted by TKS although the total
staff strength is 15 .
According to him, most of the machines/technological equipment installed inside the office were found to be outdated and mostly nonfunctional.
The non availability of datas and previous vehicle registration records has hindered the paper necessary file procedures has added woes in many occasions.
The TKS strongly reacted against the indifferent attitude of the Transport officer despite the public appeal to be stationed and look into the grievances of the public.
According to their statement, until the transport officer attends the office, DTO office would be locked indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) or Tangkhul Youth Council had also warned of shutting the District Transport Office, Ukhrul if its demand for transfer and replacement of the incumbent District Transport Officer is not met within one week counting from Nov 19 .
TMNL had served an ultimatum in this regard to Khasim Vashum, Parliamentary Secretary.
TMNL has alleged that the DTO has not attended office for years together thereby causing tremendous hardships to all who need the service of the DTO.
Besides, staff of the DTO are unnecessarily put to suffer due to non-distribution of salary owing to requirement of the DTO signature.
TMNL said that it had lodged a complaint with the Director of Transport on June 10, 2017 but to no avail.
