3rd Mao festival to be held

Imphal, November 21 2017:
The 3rd Mao festival cum 1st Cherry Blossom Festival of Manipur will be begin at Mao Gate, for three days,commencing from November 26 .
People will be able to witness varieties of activities and events apart from the scenic beauty of the area including the annual cherry blossom and the Elei waterfall. The Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development ( IBDS) Imphal, Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo initt ated the celebration of the Cherry Blossomy Festival at Mao.
The celebration was scheduled in the year; 2016, however, it was rescheduled this year due to some inconveniences.
It may be mentioned that the Flower Fes tival was first organized in the year 2015 by Song Song Youth and Students Organisation , under the guidance and initiation of the then Officer in charge of Mao Police Station; Hopeson Chiplang.
By the year 2016, the festival had taken a big leap with the dedicated effort from thai then Deputy Commissioner of Senapati Disr trict, Jacintha Lazarus and the Department of Horticulture, Manipur.
With the theme as "Celebrating nature's abundance", the festival, this year, will be.
comprised of exhibition of varieties of flower, fruits and vegetables. The festival will also include many activist ties like competitions, trekking, cycling, musical night etc. Mao, a land synonymous with rich horti cultural produces has been and continues to be a hub for quality organic produces in the region.
With favourable climatic conditions and; growing' prospects of floriculture' and horti culture, Mao is quickly turning into a centre for variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables .
The cherry blossom covers the hills of Mao each years and the place is a transit point of traveller and visitors.
