Imphal, November 21 2017:
The ongoing search operations led to the recovery of another dead body of a UG on 21 Nov 2017 from the general area of Chamol in Sajik Tampak valley.
On 15 Nov 2017 at around 0530 hours, a foot column of 4 Assam Rifles had come under indiscriminate firing in the Sajik Tampak Area.
In the ensuing retaliatory fire, a UG cadre was killed on the spot and three to five cadres were injured, while balance of the UG party had fled into the jungles.
Consequently, intensive search operations were launched in the immediate aftermath, which inter-alia, included insertion of heli-borne forces along the IB to plug the likely escape routes of fleeing UGs.
As large number of inputs regarding presence of injured UGs continued to pour, dedicated & relentless search operations were undertaken in the area.
Although, the tedious search was greatly impeded by thick foliage, undulating terrain & rainy-cum-hazy conditions pertaining in the area.
Braving inclement weather, the AR troops leveraged technology to the hilt towards tracing the fleeing UGs.
Extensive use of state of the art forward looking Infra-Red (FLIR) mounted on helicopter, tracker dogs, night vision devices, Global poisoning system etc was made.
Eventually, on 21 Nov 2017, seventh night of the operation, the sheer persistence in carrying out relentless search and pursuit operations paid dividends as the dead body of a UG cadre along with residual bags, food items and medicines was recovered in a nala, which is approximately 2 Kms south of the incident site.
The identity of the UG has not yet been confirmed.
However, local sources identify the dead person as 'Lulun' of KYKL group.
Necessary legal formalities are being completed for the disposal of the body.
The search is on for remaining UGs.
