Imphal, May 20 2015 :
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has appealed to the people to extend support to the proposed 24-hour general strike called by the Committee for Kojori Dzkou Land Border and Mao Council on May 22 over the 'illegal' seizure of land by Nagaland people in Dzkou Valley area.
The Manipur wide bandh announced by the two bodies should be supported by the people, AMUCO president Dr Mani Khuman told a press meet at the office of United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Wednesday.
"We know that under the deceitful plan of the Nagaland Southern Angami Peoples Organization the Southern Angami people have encroached upon Manipur territory deep inside the Dzkou Valley grasping land measuring some 10 km," Dr Mani claimed.
He insisted that the Angami people are constructing roads inside the Manipur territory and they are also continuously heaving forest products from this area.
The State wide bandh, which is to begin midnight of May 22, has been called to register a protest against the Manipur Government for allegedly keeping mum over the land dispute.
He appealed to all drivers to suspend service on this day.
"The State Government should immediately stop the encroachment activities taking place in the Dzkou valley area," demanded UCM president Johnson Elangbam during the press meet.
He also cited the unresolved land disputes in Manipur's Tungjoi and Jessami areas and criticized the State Government for allegedly keeping silence over such serious matters.
Johnson demanded that the Manipur Government immediately stop the alleged encroachment activities by holding talks with the Nagaland Government.
