Imphal, July 12 2018:
Imphal West district police personnel foiled an attempt by JAC members and MSF volunteers to storm the Chief Minister's Bungalow today, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits behind the hit and run case which claimed the life of MSF vice president Jugeshwar.
A large number of Imphal West district police personnel including women personnel were deployed near the Chief Minister's bungalow and an iron barricade was also erected to prevent any kind of attempt to storm the bungalow.
Volunteers of MSF and members of the JAC came in small groups one after another and tried to storm the Chief Minister's bungalow holding banners demanding justice for late Ningthoujam Jugeshwar.
The police team deployed near Nupi Lan complex prevented the protesters from going further toward the Chief Minister bungalow and a scuffle broke out after the protesters forcefully marched toward the bungalow shouting slogans.
Soon after that additional police team led by S Hemanta Additional SP (Law and Order) Imphal West rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Speaking to media persons, Ngariyanbam Milan, president of MSF, informed that the hit and run case occurred on June 22 near the Inter State Bus Terminus and in the said incident the late vice president and joint secretary of MSF were injured.
They were immediately rushed to Raj Medicity and on June 25, vice president Ningthoujam Jugeshwar succumbed to his injuries, he added.
He continued that in connection with the hit and run case, MSF and the JAC have appealed to the State Government and the Home Department to arrest the involved vehicle and culprits.
They also decided not to claim the dead body until the State Government nabs the culprits.
Many days have passed since the incident but the State Government and the Home Department have failed to produce any clue regarding the incident and as such it is highly suspected that the incident is a case of deliberate killing, Milan claimed and alleged that though police have failed to get the footages of CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area of the incident site, MSF found that some of the CCTV footages were deleted.
He also alleged that the present BJP led State Government which claims to be the people's Government is not a people friendly Government as it is against the poor people and those who don't have high level contacts.
Questioning why the State Government has failed to arrest the culprits till date, Milan said that MSF will not claim the body of late Ningthoujam Jugeshwar till the culprits are arrested.
The body is still lying at JNIMS morgue as an unclaimed body.
