A combined team of Tengnoupal CDO and police under the supervision of Th Vikramjit Singh, SP Tengnoupal arrested a drug peddlar and seized contraband items at Chamol village along NH-102 yesterday.
The person, identified as Paoneo Haokip (34) of Thawai Kuki village, Phungyar Phaisat sub-division but currently residing at Mongneljang village in Kangpokpi district was arrested after a hot pursuit, saidapolice source.
Paoneo, who was riding a Maruti Celerio car, was intercepted for checking by the team of Tengnoupal CDO at around 3.30 pm while coming towards Imphal from Moreh side.
He however ignored the signal to stop and sped away towards Tengnoupal, the source said.
The CDO team subsequently communicated with OC of the Tengnoupal police station while pursuing the same vehicle, the source said.
Following the communication, a team of Tengnoupal police led by its OC took position in front of the police station but the peddler managed to evade the same and escaped for a while.
The pursuit by the combined team however continued and found the vehicle hidden near a newly constructed building around 100 metres away from Gaby's Cafe.
The team managed to recover 2 packets of brown sugar from his vehicle, 202 WY tablets from his possession and another 20 packets of brown sugar which were kept concealed by the peddler in the bushes around 50 metres down the gorge, the source said.
He was arrested at around 5 pm along with the said contraband items, 22 plastic soap cases of different colours used in packing the drugs.
The team also seized the car, its RC book, an identity card, one Samsung mobile phone 4G DUOs and Aadhar Card which were in Paoneo's possession.
A case has also been registered at the Tengnoupal PS and investigation is underway.
