Imphal, November 10 2020:
Peoples Task Force (PTFC-19) for COVTD-19 stated that it is unfortunate that SOPs were violated non-chalantly in the recently held by-elections on November 7 and the situation on the day of counting was even worse with thousands of people roaming around without mask and with no proper social distancing rejoicing the win rather than taking precaution against the dreadful virus.
They also condemned the Home Department for turning a blind eye to the violators on account of the election.
PTFC-19 appealed to the State Technical Committee to conduct mass testing for COVID-19 in the Constituencies where by-election was held and to impose stricter norms.
In continuation of its campaign against COVID-19, the volunteers of PTFC-19 conducted public awareness campaign at Thoubal Keithel, Wangjing Keithel and Yairipok Keithel in Thoubal district today.
The situation at these places were alarming when the volunteers reached the venue as the buyers and sellers in these markets did not follow any SOPs of COVID-19 .
In Yairipok Keithel a group of people without wearing mask were gambling (Lagao Khaoba) while the police personnel on duty were silently observing it which is unacceptable, said PTFC-19 .
The volunteers of PTFC-19 urged the public to strictly adhere to the SOPs and stated that they will continue to conduct public awareness campaign on COVID in the coming days as well.
Lastly PTFC appealed to the State Government to take stringent actions against those who are violating the SOPs.
